My name is Danielle, I am a self confessed calorie counter (although calorie’s are not the be all and end all to living a healthy existence and maintaining your weight, we must ensure the calories we consume are nutrient rich and not empty calories), gym junkie and chocoholic!!!
I previously worked in the high pressure corporate world but decided to follow my passion of health and nutrition and am now a qualified Weight Loss Consultant. I am a Mumma to an extremely active toddler, as well as studying a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional Medicine, BHSc (NutMed). What can I say, I work well under pressure ;-).
Following my blog will allow you to come on my nutrition journey as I will share some of my learnings with you. The recipes are based on what I have tried and tested to live a more healthy existence. Don’t get me wrong, as I stated above I am a chocoholic from way back and if you have a pack of doritos in your posession you better hide them quick smart as I would happily devour a pack at any time of the day.
Many people ask me about weight loss and nutrition advice and it seems that so many people are looking for the quick fix when it comes to weight loss, I want to empower you to beat that “quirky calorie” that keeps on sneaking into your diet and won’t take no for an answer…
We must remember that health is a lifestyle not a diet.
It is strange how I have come to be where I am today on my fitness, health and nutrition path. In junior school I always came last in school carnivals, I could not have ran if my life depended on it.. I remember my mum and nanna would be cheering me on long after the other children had passed the finish line. Then in high school I had my mums signature down pat when it came to forging notes for my teacher in PE, who could have thought a child could be sick every week, what a poor kid, ha!!!
I went on so many crash diets from the age of 16 upwards and at one stage I was taking diet pills and the funny thing is I wasn’t even heavily overweight, I was just a little chubby. However this chubbiness changed to weight gain when I went over to the UK to work for over a year.. All of the Cider, kebabs and curries took its toll on my body and when I returned my friends commented on my larger frame, can you believe I thought my clothes had shrunk, talk about being optimistic!!! I could have called my blog the blind optimist (I am laughing at myself right now). THIS is where my addiction to fitness started, (very) slowly over time I became fitter, I then realised I felt better when I ate better. Hippocrates was onto something when he quoted “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food“.
A diet is DIE without the T so let me help you live a healthy existence and not miss out on any of those tasty treats that our body craves from time to time. I do not create all of the recipes I post on my blog but all are tried and tested and have earned the Quirky Calorie Approval!!
Enjoy and thank you for following xx
